What are some of the concepts in art that you feel like are unique to your generation (as opposed to the concepts covered by paper cutting artisans traditionally)?

There are a lot of cross-cultural references and postmodern approach to image making in my work. And the concerns of environmental issues and our relationships with nature in the 21st century in my work also are rather different than traditional paper cutting.

Do you feel like this modern crossover of concept and skill requires a different set of skills than the ones applied by traditional papercutting artisans?

It primarily involves a need for individual expression and creativity, developing one's lexicon and style in cut paper that speaks to and resonates with a contemporary audience.

In 2009, papercutting was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Do you feel like your work connects you to such concerted efforts to ensure the viability of papercutting as a traditional art form, or do you feel independent of such efforts?

I feel independent of such efforts. My goal is in creating contemporary cut paper as a personal, artistic practice.
